10 years ago this June, artist Dorit Cypis came up to me during an art opening in minneapolis minnesota. She asked if my artwork was a simulation or a representation. i froze with dread and fear. it was like being in 7th grade & getting asked if you were a virgin or a whore. i felt as if there was no available word to describe my state- the words available couldn't just could't depict timing, inclination and motivation. back at the art show, i swerved sideways, dipping into the problem of art which tries to make manifest,- the control revolution. i told Dorit about the dangerous diagnostics power of simulation and representation. I tried to infer that my work was an example of some of the problems inherent in treading this way- I had no reasonable expectation of controlling meaning.
