The much more interesting and problematic question
is whether interactivity can even define a category
of art. Certainly some art is interactive. But the
least successful work that makes use of recent technology
that work that allows itself to be defined,
in a last ditch modernist essentialist
greenbergian swansong gesture, by that technology.
Interactivity is one minor quality. Don't let's use it to
define a genre (and there's another revolting term.)
