Remember that Plato complained about the then-new
technology of the alphabet that humans would come
to rely not on their own memories but on written
records, and so they would gradually lose their
capacity for memory. It seems that the new technology
is the problem--the older ones, the ones we've grown
used to, such as the alphabet, come to seem like part
of our natures.
